We Leave For Deming Today and Antelope Wells Tomorrow!!!

Today is the day!!! I still have to load everything into the Xterra, and then we will pick up Cas at the airport around 12:30. The wind was blowing too hard yesterday to change out the belts, but I think they will make the trip okay. The wind is going to pick up again today and it is suddenly 40 degrees cooler. It is great riding weather. Hopefully we will get through the desert before it warms up again. This is it for now. We are passing through Silver City on Memorial Day weekend so I do not think I will find a computer to update this blog. My wife has promised to help transcribe updates. Adios. Vayan con Dios.

Hi Biker Bob,

Becky & I enjoyed meeting you and chatting with you on that dirt road in the Jemez mountains. We were the ones in the truck with mt. bikes in the back. Hope you have a lot of great adventures and a safe trip!

Hi Deb and Becky,

It is always fun to meet people on the trail. I hope you and Becky found some great places to ride in the Jemez Mountains. It is so beautiful out there.

I won't decide about whether I am going to leap frog over Colorado or do a flip flop from Banff or Roosville this summer until I get this skin rash under control.

In any case I may do a ride up in the Igancio Chavez Grant area near Cabezon just to keep in shape. If you have not investigated that area for mountain biking than you you should consider it.

As I recall it is only open to motorized vehicles until the end of June. However, hikers and mountain bikers are welcome all year. I do avoid it during hunting season.

The Albuquerque BLM district office on Montano controls the access and can give you information about it.

I will post my pictures of the ride from Grants to Cuba from this recent trip fairly soon. The Igancio Chavez Grant is mostly up on Mesa Chivato, which towers over the fabulous geology in the valley.

It is interesting country to drive through too(as long as it is not raining). However, make sure you know where you are going, because nothing is marked and there are a lot of gates. Check it out. Enjoy!
